Police Make Arrests in High School Theft Case

The police department believes five juveniles stole items from the school.

The Moorpark Police Department has arrested five minors from Oxnard and Port Hueneme in connection with an Oct. 24 theft at Moorpark High School.

The juveniles, who range in age from 15 to 17, were members of a basketball team playing in a tournament for local club teams hosted at the high school, according to a statement issued by the department Friday afternoon.

The statement said the suspects broke into a classroom and the student store and stole several items, including school apparel and electronic devices.

The entire incident was captured on school surveillance video, however, and the Moorpark school resource officer, the police officer assigned to the high school, was able to identify the suspects after an investigation and the department arrested the suspects and took them to juvenile hall Oct. 27, the report said.

It also said some of the property has been recovered and returned to the high school.
