Man Arrested for Fake-Bomb Scare, Threatening Police

The device was left at the Moorpark Police Station.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department on Saturday arrested a Moorpark man for placing a fascimile explosive devise and threatening note outside the Moorpark Police Department.

At about noon Saturday, Jorque Loza, 43, placed an anonymous call to 911, saying a suspicious package had been placed in front of the Spring Road police station, according to a statement issued by the Sheriff's Department, which staffs the police department.

The statement said when deputies located a bottle containing a liquid and accompanied by a threatening note, they cordoned off the area and called for technicians from the Sheriff's bomb squad and the Ventura County Fire Department's hazardous materials team, who determined the bottle and its contents were not dangerous.

An investigation revealed Loza both placed the call and left the bottle and note, according to the Sheriff's statement, which also said Loza was booked into a county pre-trial detention facility with a bail set at $250,000.

The Sheriff's statement did not give a motive or details of the note. Patch will update the story as details become available.
