Sheriff's Department Recovers Stolen Horses

At least one of the horses was taken from property along Highway 118/Los Angeles Avenue.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday recovered five stolen horses from a Camarillo stable and arrested one person in connection with the crime.

One standard-sized horse and four miniature horses valued in total at more than $10,000 plus two saddles valued at more than $1,200 were recovered from the stables on the 1900 block of Lewis Road, according to a statement issued by the Sheriff's Department.

Oscar Pina, 19, of Somis was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, the statement said.

The owner of the standard-sized horse first noticed the horse was missing from his property located on Los Angeles Avenue in Somis on Feb. 28. At the time, he didn't know if the horse was stolen or had managed to get loose and was roaming the nearby hillsides, he told deputies.

On March 13, the owner located his horse along with the miniature horses in the Lewis Road stable. He notified the sheriff's department, and the responding deputies found Pina to be involved, the Sheriff's statement said.

The horses were returned to their owners and Pina was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail, according to the Sheriff's Department.
