Want an easy way to see a map of area crimes? How about reading sheriff's department press releases? Or accessing information about inmates currently in the sheriff's custody. Now, there's an app for that.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Department has developed a free iPhone application that allows county residents to access all that plus a phone directory, information about the department's substations and more.
The app can be downloaded from the iTunes store by searching by any of the following key words: VCSO, VCSD, Ventura or Sheriff.
The department is currently working on a version of the app that will be compatable with Android devices.
I haven't yet, but probably will. As it is, I get e-mails and texts about sheriff activity plus I check websites. I figure if it helps me do my job, I'll try it! (Of course, if everyone downloads it, there won't be any need for me to report on police activity! lol) - Becca
