Simi Valley Man Sentenced to 4 Years for Child Pornography-Related Crimes

The man was found guilty of soliciting another person via the Internet to sexualy assault a child.

The Ventura County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday announced a Simi Valley man has been sentenced to four years in state prison for child pornography and sexual assault-related charges.

Danny Greg Kennedy, 62, was sentenced for soliciting another person over the Internet to sexually assault a child, distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography, according to the district attorney's office.

The Simi Valley Police Department, responding to a tip from Yahoo and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, executed a search warrant for Kennedy's Simi Valley apartment in June 2012.

"A forensic examination of Kennedy's computer revealed hundreds of child pornography images and videos, many involving infants and toddlers," the D.A.'s office said.

A statement by the district attorney's office went on to say that records obtained from Yahoo and AOL revealed that Kennedy had emailed child pornography to at least three other people and engaged in an online chat where he encouraged the sexual assault of an infant and requested that it be filmed for his benefit.

The Simi Valley police department tracked down the recipient of the solicitation and alerted the FBI, which led to a search warrant being executed in West Virginia for the person Kennedy solicited, Stephen Laton of Alum Creek, West Virginia. Child pornography was seized and Laton has been charged with sexual abuse by a parent or guardian and distribution of child pornography for broadcasting the acts over the Internet via webcam, the D.A.'s office said.

In addition to the four-year prison sentence, Kennedy will be required to register as a sexual offender.
