Suspect Taken Into Custody Following Police Pursuit, Two Collisions

A reported stolen vehicle caused two separate crashes in Moorpark Thursday afternoon before the female driver left the car and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended, according to a report from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in Moorpark.

Jennifer Hayward, 25, of Oxnard was arrested on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle, felony evading, driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run, the report said.

Deputies report witnessing the incident that began at approximately 1 p.m. in which Hayward, driving a car reportedly stolen from the Camarillo area, sideswiped a vehicle traveling northbound on Spring Road approaching Princeton Avenue, said the report.

A pursuit ensued after Hayward failed to stop for the accident and continued southbound in the northbound lanes on Spring Road through the intersection at Los Angeles Avenue at a high rate of speed, the report said.

Hayward's vehicle next struck a second car traveling westbound in the intersection of Spring Road and Tierra Rejada Road. This collision caused the second vehicle to flip over several times until it came to rest in the on-coming eastbound lanes of Tierra Rejada, according to the report.

Her car just missed hitting a motorcyclist stopped in the left-turn lane, the report said.

Hayward then reportedly ran into a field south of Terra Rejada, where she was arrested and taken into custody, the report said.

She was taken to Los Robles Hospital for unknown injuries, the report said.

No one was injured, according to the report.

The intersection was closed for approximately three hours as police investigated the scene.
