T.O. Police Arrest Armed Robbery Spree Suspects

Detectives of the Thousand Oaks Police Department on Thursday arrested two Oxnard residents they suspect of committing a series of armed street robberies.

Detectives arrested Daniel Alvarez, 23, and a 14-year-old juvenile whose name was not released, both of the El Rio area, after linking them to six separate incidents throughout Thousand Oaks in which at least one person displayed a hand gun, according to a statement by the police department.

Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff's Gang Unit and Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit were key in helping identify the suspects. They located a stolen vehicle used in the crimes in El Rio and conducted a surveillance, finding it occupied by two males who matched the robbery suspect descriptions.

The suspects' residences were searched and evidence related to the crimes was located, the police department said.

The suspects were initially booked on suspicion related to the stolen vehicle; however, after reviewing the cases, the District Attorney's office elected to file multiple robbery charges with enhancement for committing them with the use of a firearm against Alvarez. The juvenile was also charged with committing armed robbery, according to the police department's statement.

Alvarez was being held at the county's main jail with bail set at $500,000 and the juvenile was being lodged at juvenile hall.

The Thousand Oaks police department requests anyone with information regarding the crimes to contact Det. Welty at 805-494-8224.
