Congresswoman Julia Brownley, who represents Moorpark as part of California's 26th Congressional District, on Wednesday introduced an act intended to help blind and severely disabled veterans get healthcare.
Brownley, who introduced the bill with Rep. Mike Michaud of Maine, said the cost of travel to Veterans Administration hospitals often deters or prohibits catasrophically disabled veterans to visit them.
The Veterans Medical Access Act would extend current travel benefits already provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs to cover travel costs of veterans with vision impairment, spinal cord injuries or disorders or amputations.
"Ranking Member Michaud and I introduced this bill to ensure those who have so honorably served our country have the resources they need to access the highest quality of care," Brownley said.
