Three Contenders Vie for Two Council Seats

Mayor Parvin will run unopposed.

Three incumbents and one challenger are seeking election to local office this November.

Mayor Janice Parvin is running for re-election un-opposed, but council members Mark Van Dam and David Pollock along with James K. Hoffman, who mounted an unsuccessful bid for a council seat in the May 2009 special election, will fight it out for two open council seats.

The Moorpark City Council consists of the mayor, who serves a two-year term, and four council members, each serving four-year, staggered terms. The terms  of council members Roseann Mikos and Keith Millhouse expire in November of 2012.

How long have you lived in Moorpark? 25 years

What do you enjoy most about living in Moorpark?  Our small town atmosphere and friendly people

What do you see as the major issues facing the city?

  • Reductions in revenue brought on by the recession.
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) bureaucracy to get relief for Moorpark residents who were forced to purchase costly new flood insurance without just cause.
  • Jobs and business retention.

What are your goals for your term if elected?

My top priorities include continuing to balance the city's budget without impacting services; insure Moorpark remains one of the safest cities in California; maintain my close working relationship with businesses and the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce and collaborating with public agencies, nonprofit groups and private firms to capitalize on resources and speed economic recovery.

Any future political aspirations? To be the best mayor I can be.
