Strickland Will Run for Congress

The state senator's official announcement will come Tuesday.

Confirming what speculators have been predicting since California redistricting formed a new congressional district, Sen. Tony Strickland issued a media advisory Monday stating the senator will announce his candidacy officially on Tuesday morning.

Strickland, a Republican, will be entering the race for the 26th Congressional District, joining Moorpark City Councilmember David Pollock, Ventura County supervisors Linda Parks and Steve Bennett, Oxnard Harbor District Commissioner Jess Herrera, business man David Cruz Thayne and longshoreman Zeke Ruelas.

The announcement follows Rep. Elton Gallegly's decision to retire after his current term.
