Moorpark High School Students Seek Counseling After Tragic Event

Authorities are still investigating what prompted the 16-year-old student to commit suicide Thursday.

In the wake of the lockdown at Moorpark High School and the train victim, later identified as a student of the school who left the threatening note at the school Thursday morning, had some students seeking counseling.

According to the Ventura County Star School Watch, "More than 75 Moorpark High School students talked with grief counselors in the campus library Friday morning, following the suicide Thursday of a classmate who had threatened the school."

The VC Star reports that the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death of the student a suicide after "an autopsy revealed the student died of blunt force injuries."

“We have a grieving campus today,” the school's Principal Carrie Pentis said Friday morning to the VC Star. “He was very smart, very kind, a very good friend to a lot of kids on campus.”

Moorpark Unified School District assured everyone in a press release that the school's counseling services and resources will be available even during the two-week winter break. The school's site also supplies a list of all important information.

Authorities are still investigating Thursday's incidents.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Buschow told the VC Star that "investigators are interviewing people close to the student, trying to establish a possible motive. Part of the investigation will also include further examining his note and checking social media."
