Winds Won't Stop School Celebrations

Flory Academy's Halloween carnival may move inside; Mesa Verde's monster maze will continue as planned.

The threat of strong Santa Ana winds Friday evening caused Flory Academy Halloween carnival organizers to consider canceling the event, but because so many people annually turn out for the event, they decided the show must go on.

By late morning, parent Brian Angel reported carnival activities, which usually take place outdoors may be moved into classrooms if heavy winds continued. Fortunately, the National Weather Service is predicting diminishing winds this evening in Moorpark.

The carnival will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the school, 240 Flory Ave. There will be a haunted house, fun walk, game booths and ghoulish treats. Organizers encourage attendees to come in costume. Admission is $2.

On Saturday, The Mesa Monster Maze will also go on as planned. The campuswide Halloween haunt was planned as an indoor activity all along and won't be affected by the weather.

Highlights of the maze at Mesa Verde include a vampire's lair, voodoo jungle, executioner's arena and tons of ghoulish zombies. Note organizers suggest this event for children 8 years and older.

The maze runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the school, 14000 Peach Hill Road. Organizers ask that attendees not wear masks or costumes. Admission is $5.
