Moorpark All-Star Football Game a Hit in More Ways Than One

Local sports: Two East players from Moorpark are ejected for fighting.

Moorpark High played host to the 38th annual Ventura County All-Star Game on Saturday, and Musketeers players made their mark in more ways than one.

Linebackers Quinn Bauducco and Jake Woolley, receivers Jerry Shumway and Cheldon West, defensive lineman Kevin Keane, offensive lineman Curtis Arndt, defensive back Quinn Harris and kicker Alex Nelson all contributed to the East team in a 31-21 victory, but Bauducco and Harris were ejected late in the second quarter after a fight broke.

“One guy pushed one of our guys out of bounds, and it went from there," said Woolley, who had six tackles. “It was not a big deal, just kind of whatever.”

A total of four players were ejected, two from each side.

Oaks Christian’s Richie Harrington completed 11 of 17 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, and Oaks Christian teammate Blair Holliday scored two touchdowns and had an interception on defense.

A 33-yard touchdown pass from Harrington to Holliday gave the East the lead for good, and they later connected on a 45-yard touchdown.

Nelson kicked a field goal for the game’s first points.

MOORPARK BASEBALL DUO ALL-LEAGUE

Moorpark baseball standouts Matt Higginbotham and Spencer Dubois have been named to the All-Marmonte League team. Higginbotham is a senior pitcher/outfielder, and Dubois is a senior catcher.

Higginbotham was scheduled to participate in the fifth annual City vs. Southern Section All-Star Game Saturday at Birmingham High in Van Nuys, but he has had a change in plans and instead will travel to Las Vegas to visit family.

“I’ll probably take the rest of the summer off and rest,” Higginbotham said. “Once it’s mid-July, I’ll start hitting it hard again.”

Higginbotham had some interest from colleges, but a shoulder injury early in the season hurt his recruiting stock. If nothing pans out, the plan is for Higginbotham to play JC ball at Oxnard College.

“Now that the Major League draft is over, we’ll see if something opens up,” Higginbotham said.
