Moorpark Football Looks for Another Road Win

Local Sports: The Musketeers plays at Agoura tonight in a Marmonte League game.

Hoping to parlay a 48-12 football win last week at Newbury Park, Moorpark plays another Marmonte League game on the road tonight, as the visiting Musketeers (2-1, 1-1) play at Agoura (0-3, 0-2). Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Grant Rohach, Moopark’s standout quarterback, passed for 199 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Newbury Park, and part of his success is because of the good protection the Iowa State-bound senior is getting from his offensive line.

“We have a very good offensive line this year,” Rohach said. “They’ve performed very well in our three games. Tony Peterson and Tony Sarrocco are the two leaders.”

With Rohach’s hot hand, plus a series of impressive performances from running back Aaron Stanton, Moorpark is averaging 31 points per game.

“Aaron Stanton has absolutely been playing great,” Rohach said.

The Musketeers are also playing strong defense, limiting Newbury Park to fewer than 200 yards.  Some of the top hitters are Joey Eckert, who has returned two interceptions for touchdowns, along with Brandon Hughes, Christian Dearborn, Tony Mack and Jordan Guerrero.

The fact Rohach committed early to Iowa State has helped him, he said.

“The other recruiters have backed off because they know I’m totally committed,” said Rohach, who has family in Iowa. “It’s a stress-relieving senior year by not having to worry about college.”

MOORPARK JC READY FOR ANYTHING AGAINST COMPTON

Moorpark College (2-2) takes on visting Compton (0-4) in a JC football game Saturday at 6 p.m., and even though visiting Compton is winless, Moorpark coach Jim Bittner is concerned.

“They haven’t won a game yet, but they must have 100 players on that team, a bunch of athletes running around,” Bittner said. “They’re not organized, but they’re getting better every game, game by game, so I’ve been telling my guys not to take anything for granted. They’re very athletic, and they have good size. I just don’t know which Compton team will show up, and that concerns me.”

KEEPING TABS

Dalton Botts, a Moorpark College alum, is doing well as a punter at University of Miami. He’s averaging 42.4 yards on 10 punts with a long of 58 and six fair catches. He has pinned one punt inside the 20.
