Moorpark High Football Alumni Make Changes

Brian Blechen is changing positions at Utah while former standout Darrell Scott is ready to resume his college football career at South Florida.

After a steller freshman season at Utah, former Moorpark High standout Brian Blechen is moving from strong safety to linebacker – presumably so the returning Freshman All-American honoree can get even more into the action.

Linebacker is Blechen’s third position since first being recruited as a quarterback. In high school, he was also a top punter.

As a freshman, Blechen won the starting job on defense in his first week of fall camp, and he had two game-saving interceptions and four total. He was named as a freshman All-American by Sporting News, Rivals, Phil Steele and collegefootballnews.com.

Blechen also was an honorable mention All-Mountain West Conference defensive back and three-time conference defensive player of the week against Pittsburgh, Air Force and BYU. He tied for third on the team with 67 tackles. He was also named to the Mountain West Conference All-Academic team.

Meanwhile, in the southeast, former Moorpark High football player Darrell Scott is ready to resume his college football career at South Florida after taking a year off because of transfer restrictions.

Scott arrived at South Florida last year after two seasons at Colorado, where he failed to live up to his billing as a prep All-American.

Scott, at one time considered the No. 1 prep recruit in the country, rushed for 3,194 yards and scored 45 touchdowns for Moorpark as a junior, helping the Musketeers to the Southern Section Northern Division final. But he ended up transferring to St. Bonaventure for his senior season, leaving a bitter taste because he never gave a good reason, saying only that he felt more comfortable at St. Bonaventure.
