Moorpark's Baseball Team Copes With Rain

Prep Sports Notebook: A number of Musketeer athletes have been given All-Marmonte League honors.

No one has been able to stop Moorpark High’s baseball team – except Mother Nature, that is.

The Musketeers are among Southern California’s most successful programs with a 7-1 record including three shutouts over the past four games, but they’ve been rained out the past two games, first on Wednesday against Thousand Oaks, followed up by today’s rainout against Newbury Park

That means Moorpark will be forced to play eight games over the next two weeks.

“It’s something every team has to deal with. I just wish we could play,” pitcher Matt Higginbotham said. “Playing eight games over two weeks, the best teams with the deepest pitching staffs are going to shine.”

In his last outing, Higginbotham pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 in a 2-0 win over Westlake last Friday. It was his first start since injuring his left non-pitching shoulder sliding into second base in the second opener.
