Scene in Moorpark: The Old Ball Game

On Thursday, Moorpark Little Leaguers lost the District championships to a team from Conejo Valley.

The Moorpark 11-12 Little League team lost the district championship game against Conejo Valley Thursday after winning four games in the tournament to get there.

Moorpark lost 4 to 1 to Conejo when it met the team in the third round of play a week ago but came back to win against a Sunset team from Oxnard Monday to bring them back to face Conejo in the double-elimination tournament Wednesday.

Moorpark beat Conejo 3 to nothing in that match-up, so the teams faced one another for a final game on Thursday. The game went a full five innings, one short of normal, when it was called on a mandatory ten-run or "mercy rule," wherein a game is ended if a team is losing by ten or more runs and the losing team has completed at least four innings. The final score was 12 to 2.
