Strawberry Festival Takes Place This Weekend

Strawberry shortcake, chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry funnel cake, strawberry cotton candy...  All things strawberry—including strawberry pizza and strawberry beer—will be celebrated this weekend at one of Ventura County's biggest annual draws. The annual California Strawberry Festival is set for Saturday and Sunday in nearby Oxnard.

Get ready to toss strawberry tarts, take part in the strawberry relay race, participate in the Berry Best Hat Contest, shop for arts and crafts and play in Strawberryland for Kids. Oh- and don't forget the obligatory pie-eating contests!

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19 at Strawberry Meadows at College Park, 3250 South Rose Ave., Oxnard (near Oxnard College); however, parking may be difficult at the festival (and costs $10), so organizers suggest taking a free shuttle bus from one of the following locations:

  • Channel Islands Harbor, Harbor Boulevard and La Brea Street, Oxnard
  • The Collection at Riverpark, corner of Oxnard Boulevard and Town Center Drive, Oxnard
  • Oxnard Transportation Center, 201 E. Fourth St., Oxnard (So you can take the train from Moorpark!)
  • The Palms Shopping Center, 2000 Outlet Center Drive, Oxnard
  • Santa Clara High School, 2121 Saviers Road, Oxnard and
  • Former Target Parking Lot, 250 W. Esplanade Drive, Oxnard
Tickets to the festival are $12 for general addmission, $8 for seniors 62 and older and active military members with I.D., $5 for children 5 to 12 and free for kids 4 and younger. Tickets are available on the festival site or at the gate.
