Dear Patch People... Why include an article in the Moorpark Patch that has to do with local…Read More politics in LA? Why should this take up space in our Patch? Anybody following the elections in LA can turn to the LAT on line or any number of other sources if interested. Just wondering... I prize the local news and the timeleness of the Patch. Forget the stuff that doesn't really impact our community.

It's a big harbor, so even if you're a beginner and don't want to take the 'yaks into the open ocean, you have plenty of area to cover and play around in. The harbor also has a great Sunday farmers market.
If you're just looking for a fun morning/afternoon with the kids, I can always waste away some time with my nephews at the Camarillo library. They've got a great kids' area, complete with "pirate" ship!

When it's hot, then it is time to head to the coast. Many festivals in Oxnard and Ventura, as well as the Channel Islands National Park HQ in Ventura Harbor.
The bike trail from Ventura to Ojai is one of the best! Especially from Foster Park to Ojai. In Ojai, there are many dining and outdoor activities, including a Farmers Market on Sundays and Lake Casitas.
And Moorpark itself is a bicycling mecca, with bike lanes all over the city. With the new Read Road connector, you can now easily cycle to Simi, TO, and Camarillo. However, getting to Moorpark College from downtown Moorpark is still a challenge.
If you go by train, the Amtrak stop in Santa Barbara is right off State Street, you can go there and back by train in one day.
